Claire Powell was born in 1985 and grew up in south-east London. She is the author of At the Table, which was named one of the best books of 2022 by The Times & Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Good Housekeeping, Red Magazine and The Critic. It is forthcoming in translation in Finland and Poland.
A graduate of the UEA Creative Writing MA, she was awarded the Malcolm Bradbury Bursary and the Malcolm Bradbury Continuation Prize. Her story ‘On Closer Inspection’ won the 2017 Harper’s Bazaar Short Story Contest, and she’s had two short stories broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Other short stories have appeared online and in a number of magazines and anthologies, including Station Magazine, Volume, The Manchester Review, Untitled Books and The Standard x Warby Parker Short Story Collection. Her writing has also appeared in The Times and British Vogue.
She works as a freelance copywriter and has a Foundation Certificate in Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy from Tavistock Relationships.
Claire lives in south-east London with her partner and son.
